Abstract

ObjectiveTo describe the clinical features and outcomes of patients with severe toxoplasmosis following exposure to a single intravenous dose of the Doxycycline.

MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted with patients from a tertiary care center. Patients were defined as those with a history of severe toxoplasmosis or who were ≥3 months old. Toxoplasmosis was defined as infection with a single dose of Doxycycline in a dose of ≥1.5 mg/kg (3 times/day) for at least 1 month.

ResultsOf the 18 patients diagnosed with toxoplasmosis following exposure to a single intravenous dose of Doxycycline, 8 received a single dose of Doxycycline and 12 received a single dose of TMP (5 mg/kg/day). Of the 4 patients with severe toxoplasmosis, 4 were treated with doxycycline and 1 with TMP, and the remaining 2 received either doxycycline or TMP. All patients were diagnosed with severe toxoplasmosis and the median duration of severe toxoplasmosis was 4.5 months. The median duration of severe toxoplasmosis was 5 months.

ConclusionThis retrospective cohort study provides strong evidence for the clinical features and outcomes of patients with severe toxoplasmosis following exposure to a single intravenous dose of the Doxycycline. This finding can be broadly applied to the management of patients with severe toxoplasmosis, providing reassurance to physicians and patients. Our findings may contribute to the development of more effective therapeutic strategies for severe toxoplasmosis.

Introduction

Toxoplasmosis, or toxoplasmosis, is a bacterial infection of the central nervous system characterized by symptoms, such as fever, chills, or rigors. The most common cause of toxoplasmosis is acquired, and the remainder causes only mild symptoms. Toxoplasmosis is transmitted to the fetus by the sperm in the fetal lung during pregnancy. The most common type of toxoplasmosis is the drug-induced (DI) and is transmitted to the fetus in utero during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Toxoplasmosis is endemic in parts of the world and is estimated to occur inC. amylovisinfections of the central nervous system (CNS) [, ]. Doxycycline is one of the first-line treatments for patients with toxoplasmosis because it has been extensively used for treating severe toxoplasmosis [, ]. Doxycycline is an antibiotic that has been used to treat severe toxoplasmosis ininfections of the CNS []. The most common side effect of doxycycline is a rash []. 3. Regulating oil production: Doxycycline can also help regulate sebum (oil) production in the skin, which is a contributing factor in the development of acne.

You should combine systemic antibiotics such as doxycycline or capsules (both contraindicated in pregnancy and children under 12 years of age) with an appropriate topical agent such as or or. You should ideally continue treatment for 3 months.
